What does S.P.Q.R. mean??

(from Wikipedia..)
SPQR is an initialism from a Latin phrase, Senatus Populusque Romanus ("The Senate and the Roman People"), referring to the government of the ancient Roman Republic, and used as an official signature of the government. It appears on coins, at the end of documents made public by inscription in stone or metal, in dedications of monuments and public works, and was emblazoned on the standards of the Roman legions. The phrase appears many hundreds of times in Roman political, legal and historical literature, including the speeches of Marcus Tullius Cicero and the history of Titus Livius. Since the meaning and the words never vary, except for the spelling and inflection of populus in literature, Latin dictionaries classify it as a formula.

In modern usage, SPQR appears in the coat of arms of the city of Rome, as well as on many of the city's civic buildings and manhole covers.

The SPQR can also be found on flags and banners of the Italian football club A.S. Roma.

Formerly of Clafoutis, Cafe Midi &  Mulholland Grill, Roberto Amico opens
Cafe Bella Roma SPQR with nearly 20 years worth of ideas and experience of what great traditional Roman Italian food should be.

Born & raised in Rome, IT  he cultivated a passion for food, friends & soccer while living and doing as the true Romans do! He apprenticed at the Ritz Hotel and worked in several famous neighborhood eateries like (formerly) Ristorante Risorgimento, Bar al Corso, Ristorante La Mimosa & Trattoria Sora Lilla, where he learned each facet of Italian (& much French) cooking as well as restaurant management.  Later, he took his skills to Munich Germany, where he worked for Ristorante Aquamarine & Caffe Casal, satisfying the most hearty of Italian appetites!

Having followed Italy's national soccer team to Los Angeles during  the 1994 World Cup, Roberto fell in love with the West Coast and worked hard to make it his home.   He is honored to offer Los Angeles foodies a lifetime of Roman Pride, Good Tastes & European Culinary Experiences by welcoming all with arms wide open to his little cafe.
